THE GOLDEN DRAGON (2011)
What do you do if you are hungry, but can not be satiated? What do you do if the dream of happiness is a lie? And what do you do if you have a bloody tooth in the mouth, that does not belong to you?
THE GOLDEN DRAGON is written by award-winning German playwright Roland Schimmelpfennig. Since the world premiere in Vienna in 2009, THE GOLDEN DRAGON has won the coveted first prize at Theatertreffen in Berlin (2010) and has been presented several times including Germany and Greece. Holland House has been among the first to get the play to Denmark.
At the bottom of a property somewhere in Europe is the Golden Dragon restaurant. The menu is pan asian, and you can both eat No. 82 here, or as take-away. But at the Golden Dragon there is not just a little hair in the soup - there's a big bloody tooth, which originally sat in the mouth of the Chinese kitchen assistant. As an illegal immigrant he is unable from going to the dentist. His colleagues in the kitchen decides to pull out the painful tooth with a rusty pipe wrench. While the kitchen assistant lies bleeding to death, his sister was all the time kept locked in the back room just around the corner. In the apartments above the restaurant live two stewardesses, a grandfather and his granddaughter, a divorce hit couple, the grasshopper and the ant, the brutal Hans and the man in the striped shirt. All are regulars at the restaurant and through seemingly random glipmse in to the lives of these people's are depicted an astonishing tale of fatal connected destinies who live in the back of a globalized Europe.
