Reading of WHAT THE DICTATOR DID NOT SAY (2015)
During the FESTIVAL FOR NEW EUROPEAN DRAMA 2015 at Husets Teater in Copenhagen, Holland House presented a reading of WHAT THE DICTATOR DID NOT SAY (CE QUE LE DICTATEUR N’A PAS DIT) by the Tunisian playwright and lawyer Meriam Bousselmi. Holland House’s artistic director Jacob F. Schokking directed and staged the reading, which had Danish actor Kristian Halken in the role as the deposed dictator.
WHAT THE DICTATOR DID NOT SAY is a monologue that investigates and deals with the broken illusions and disappointments that the Arabian revolutions and revolts in 2011 also caused. Meriam Bousselmi, who participated in the revolts herself, has written a highly original text where she enters into the point of view of the dethroned dictator and gives him the word.
